Sorry if I stole your thunder.
Not at all sir.
Thank god for that...but really?who cares. We were all there to have fun and show our support of how awesome the guys were...
I don't think anyone was going all obsessed and overboard...just cheering. What's wrong with that?
Well, I don't think I implied there was anything wrong with the response last night. My comments were more observations than criticisms. Was it overboard? No. Was it overwhelming? Yeah, if only because it was unexpected (by me anyway). The crowds at Largo are usually a bit mellow and reserved but whenever Flight of the Conchords play, they really bring out an intense response from the crowd.

Awww I'm so happy for all of you girls! I can't believe you all got to see and/or meet Rhys! That would have been the icing on the cake for me!
The Largo sounds like so much fun...I wish all their shows could be that cool, not to say ours wasn't cool...cause it was...they liked us

It's Bret's fault.

most everyone else has listed the major details, there were just a couple other things that i remember. first is the merch: they had t-shirts, mugs, and signed posters (!!!) that read "1st national international [s]aussie[/s] new zealand day" with a new zealand flag superimposed over the american flag, the boys' sillouettes at the top above the writing, and below it said "featuring flight of the conchords, bic runga, other new zealand peoples (was murray there?)" the proceeds are going to some new zealand music therapy charity that the guys chose; the dude at the merch counter didn't seem to know anything about it, but i'm going to do my damndest to get a response via myspace to get more info about it. it was pricey, but i sprang for a signed poster, which is living at chrissy's place until after i move (chrissy, you want to take a pic and post it here?).
people have pretty much already talked about the emergency band meeting, but i loved how "murray" started with "where were you guys? i've been in the coat closet!", then took roll, then said "item one: dressing room mix-up. i thought i was in my dressing room, but it was the coat closet!" i just loved "item one," it made me utterly crack up. it was great, too, because even though they were offstage you could see a tiny bit of bret's leg and his guitar from where i was sitting (i imagine those on the left side of the theater could have seen them even better). the stage presence thing was absolutely hilarious
another section of banter that they did, i think at the beginning, was about comparing that show and venue to typical shows and venues in new zealand. first they talked about how popular they are in new zealand, and how the shows there would be packed, with people crowding up onstage, hanging from the rafters, and how a little kid might curl up inside the bass drum, but later would realize "that's probably not a place he wants to be." then they acknowledged that part of the reason it would be so crowded in new zealand is that the venues there are tiny, and that largo is opulent compared to most new zealand venues. jemaine said, "this place even has four corners," craning forward to look at all the corners, and then they started talking about how in nz they'd be lucky to have one or two corners, because in nz they don't have the kind of money for four. then (my favorite part) he said they once played a place that didn't have any corners at all, "so it was basically just a wall." it wasn't a great gig for them, "but it didn't help that the audience was all on the other side of the wall...so i guess it was really more like two venues."hahahahahah
about the songs....i noticed right away when they started robots (before the emergency band meeting) that they were really high-energy; even just during the opening guitar riff, they were already rockin out on their stools.
the tiny-ass red flying v guitar for demon woman was absolutely hilarious! it was basically like a badass ukelele, and bret was shredding! he certainly had some manky chops goin' on for that song chrissy remembered another line of that song that i don't think anyone had posted before, "how did you magic my clothes off?" haha and there's another line later in the song...i feel like it must rhyme with "stop" (can't remember) but he says "fly away on your mop."
in hurt feelings my favorite line is still "i feel like a prize asshole, 'cause nobody mentioned my casserole" (somehow hearing jem say "prize asshole" is really flippin' hot).
the jem-prostitute song was absolutely hilarious! it seems like a total sendup of "roxanne," so i'm wondering if the video will reflect that. bret sang most of that song, but i loved how jemaine would echo some of his lines, i.e. "i don't have to wear the tight pants!" mmmmmm tight pants...but yes, we already know about those. oh! and in the banter before the prostitute song, bret was tryingt to illustrate the concept of a budget to jemaine, and he said, "you make this much money [gesturing with his hand], and you can only spend that much money...[jemaine nods as if to say "yeah, i know, you've told me this before"] "then bret looked at us and said, "remember that; that's probably the most important thing you'll learn tonight."
and leggy blonde was just awesome! it was the last song on the program, and they were clearly just having fun with it...i recognized the chords they were playing when they began, but i contained myself 'cause it didn't seem like everyone else knew what song it was (maybe i'm wrong; did y'all recognize it before they started singing?), but then as soon as they sang "goodbye..."the audience roared! then rhys came on in his pseudo-murray outfit and stood at the front of the stage for it. hahaha and right before the thong part, i realized it was coming up and i grabbed chrissy's arm frantically....she told me later she didn't know why i had grabbed her until jemaine started in on his "HHHHMMMLEGGYBLONDEYOUGOTITGOINON..."OMG girls, the sheer power of his voice in that part! i can't even describe it....all i know is i felt a shiver up my spine.
i think that's pretty much it as far as the fotc portion....someone mentioned rhys' bit about playing war and the jetpack; he also did a bit about how the big thing when he was young was to have a walkman, but he didn't have one, so he had to pretend, which involved beatboxing, crazy dancing, and people telling him he's a dick because they couldn't hear the music he was "listening to."
all in all, it was a really great night! if i remember any other details, i'll add them in asap

thank you so much everyone for the detailed recaps!!! It kind of made me fee like i was there a little bit... and not so isolated over here in WI!
As for you Irene, i will be expecting a full report of your BACKSTAGE adventure.... i know we are all dying to hear the following:
1. What did they do when you showed them their sheepies?
2. Did you take pictures?
3. Do they smell good?
4. Did you take a glance at their pants (preferably Jem's tight white pants)?
5. How long did you get to go back stage for?
.... (does anyone want to include questions for her)
Yay! Love you guys! I'm so excited you got to see them!!

I have to agree with you Hayes (can i call you hayes?) LOL.
Shoot I was hooting and hollaring
It's a innovative comedy act and the experience of being able to see these performers who stand apart from other contemporary comedians is a rush in it self.
Ok and Jemaines booty tight pants and Brets pouty lips made me pull at my hair and cry...Just kidding...but in all seriousness they were HOT ASS!

Bic and Bo have beautiful voices and music but I didn't go to really see them perform. It was a treat. But, I always dread the BUT, if I wanted to I would go on the nights they are headlining.
Even if i've known the guys were performing with them i still wouldn't go...and they have in the past and will next week as well.
The Largo is the most unpretentious place on La Cienega Blvd. FULL STOP.
Have you seen the hoity toity places around it? Talk about Boujis!
So in saying that I haven't been to see an FOTC show that people weren't noisy about how happy they are there to see them perform LIVE
Like Chrissy said earlier...it had a better feel than the concert. Several reasons. One is was a smaller venue. Two the people who were there were big fans. Not like at the concert I had to experience sitting behind this couple where the girlfriend kept asking "is it over yet" and kept talking to her boyfriend throughout the show

it was such a great show! such a blast. everyone did such great recaps.
i loved when bret picked up his mini flying v and said "oh this is just my mini flying v guitar" and then jemaine picked up a tiny tambourine and said oh so casually "oh this? this is just a mini tambourine..." or something like that. haha! it was so awesome. he didnt even use the tambourine but it was still cool.
i didnt meet every flighty but i was glad to see the ones i knew and the ones i met. thanks caik and chrissy for letting me play those games with you!

answers from what I remember... ITS ALL A BLUR, GAH IT WAS SOOOOO SURREAL!
1. Jem: "aw this is great.... thank you" and then later on when I left, "THANK YOU SO MUCH"
Bret: "thank you", "good job on the DG-20", "oh we have one of those in our Collection" (referring to the dragon), "oh i see, thank you" (after i explained the situation at the orpheum), "well thank you, enjoy the show!"
2. didn't have anything with me besides the gifts. so no pictures
3. I have no idea if they smelled good hahahahaha i didnt really have any direct contact with them (unfortunately)
4.I didn't really notice how tight they were till I saw them on stage, but i did notice how sixy Jemaine looked backstage.... How could I not.... He was the second thing I saw after the group of ladies lounging around at the door lol.
5. I have no idea how long I was back there, if i had to guess would say a minute thirty to two min. My time with Bret was a bit longer because I explained to him what was up with the second gift that I had for him, the dragon.
after I talked to flanny and thanked him he told me that he was going to have breakfast with the guys the next day.. (which was today) i hope he put in a good word for me... because I am starting to think that Bret and Jemaine think that I am a creepy silly stalker fan. O_O
I plan to talk to Flanny again sometime this week and I will ask him what other developments has happened since last night and such. Hes a sweet man and he seems to give me information even when i don't ask about it XD
I'm glad I got to give him a hug and I'm glad he gave me a good squeeze back! It felt really good to get a hug from him ^^

I feel ya, Ines, re: the area around Largo;
it's not really my style. Largo, however, felt like a sanctuary in a sea of hoity-toity-ness.
As for the tightness of Jem's pants... I'll just say that they were so tight, I could see his leg muscles moving as he balanced himself on his stool. Yup. Definitely TIGHT.
