Not much out there on this gig but a couple of fan reviews for now.
Flight of the Conchords, Largo, June 12 2006 by Michele
I attend 2-3 shows at Largo every month and I can honestly say that I’ve never seen such a long line to get into the venue. They had to turn people away because the place was so packed. Word has spread about FoTC somehow—some people said they’d seen the guys on the HBO special and others heard about their opening for Jon Brion recently. The show began with a few great stand-up comics opening for them, then the guys took the stage.
They said that they hadn’t played for a while and they were going to perform some of their older stuff that we probably hadn’t heard. I recognized some of it from the BBC CDs I’d recently purchased from audible.com. Such as “Bret, You’ve Got It Going On,” “I’m Not Crying,” and a couple others.
My favorite moment of the night was when they played the “I’m the Pretty Prince…” song and Bret was doing some percussion on the top part of his guitar but noticed that his strings were giving off a sound whenever he hit the guitar. So to fix it, he swung his leg over the neck of the guitar in order to stop the strings from doing anything. Then he continued his percussion. Jemaine laughed and made a comment about how it would be much easier if he just turned his guitar over and did percussion that way. Bret said that he needed to be able to easily access the strings for the part he has to play during the song. After which Jemaine demonstrated how quick it would be for Bret to turn his guitar over rather than having to awkwardly swing his leg over the guitar. So Bret decided to go with the turned-over guitar and used the same technique the following night.
They did play the new “part-time model/most beautiful girl in the room” song which is already a classic. My favorite line is the one where they sing “It’s only me and you…and seven other dudes…on the dance floor…” (Yeah, I’m missing half the words, but if you’re familiar with it, you’ll know which part I’m talking about.)
At the end, they asked for requests and there were all sorts of them such as “Jenny,” “Albi,” “Frodo,” etc., and they went with “Jenny” and added some new talking bits going into greater detail on “Police Academy.” And made some very valid and hilarious points.

I saw F o The C last night at this tiny dinner club on Fairfax in L.A. The doors were to open at 8:00 and we didn't have reservations so we got there around 7:15. There were about 20 people already lined up! I thought 45 minutes would be more than enough time. Apparently I misjudged the enormous drawing power of New Zealand's Fourth Most Popular Folk Parody Duo. A mistake I won't make again.
Fortunately we got in but I estimate about 30 people that got there too late were turned away. It was standing room only when they finally let the "non-reserved" in, but there were couple of reserved tables that people hadn't shown up for. I asked the doorman if we could have one and he gave it to us! So the evening started very well.
The show was great. The venue was super small. Not a bad seat in the house. The host was marginally funny. Then there were a couple of openers. At about 10:30 Jemaine and Bret came out and did 5 or 6 songs. They opened with "Beautiful Woman" which I hadn't heard before and there was a hilarious bit with Bret using his guitar as a bongo and Jemaine showing him the "right way" to do it. Bret set up a drum kit for one of the songs. Frankly I can't remember the title. I was several Guinnesses in by then.
I laughed so hard my stomach was sore this morning. One of the highlights was Jemaine performimg a song he had written for Bret to ease Bret's "Body Self-Consciousness" that he was experiencing, visiting L.A. The song got a little "Brokeback". And then there was a "review" of the lyrics after the song where they discussed the propriety of some of the lines and whether or not Bret had been violated. I almost fell out of my chair.
They closed with "Jenny" which the crowd totally got into. Then they were gone. It went by way too fast. They came out and mingled after the show. Fortunately my pushy friend was with me and got them to take a picture because I was way too nervous to ask. I'm afraid I was a complete jackass, stuttering and blathering and such but they were very nice about it. They're playing again on Monday and I'll definitely be there.
Sorry this wasn't the most fascinating review. But there's a picture! (I'm the ridiculously excited nerd in the middle.) They're ridiculously excited to be taking a picture with me too. They just hide it better...
