Wellington company Pop Film have just been approved funding for a new documentary on the success of Flight of the Conchords duo Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement.
The one hour documentary entitled "Flight of the Conchords: On Air" will screen on PRIME later this year.
I hate that I won't be able to see it when it airs T_T

Flight of the Conchords: On Air {documentary}

Making an international hit TV comedy requires a surprising amount of hard work, and little in the way of pampering and fruit bowls, the Flight of the Conchords stars admit in a revealing documentary.
When the show's second series finally hits our screens next month, it will be prefaced by a documentary made by Bret McKenzie's long-term girlfriend, Hannah Clarke.
The fly-on-the wall programme, Flight of the Conchords: On Air, includes behind-the-scenes footage of the Conchords' lives in New York. McKenzie, 32, and Jemaine Clement, 35, also speak candidly about their road to fame.
Clement reveals an unexpected lifestyle at the hub of American entertainment.
"I thought I was going to be pampered with ... fruit bowls. A lazy person shouldn't be made to work as much as I have to," he says.
In keeping with one source of laughs on the show, the pair also reveal they are constantly quizzed about their accents when out and about in New York.
Says McKenzie: "Taxi drivers say, 'New Zealand, right, where they do the Harry Potter films, right?"'
As we wait patiently for the second series, US viewers settle down for the third episode tonight, in which (spoiler alert!) Bret and Jemaine are temporarily forced into prostitution.
Judging by reviews in the American media, the pair are set to repeat the success of the Grammy-winning first series with the second series nominated for four Emmy Awards.

I hope us Non-NZers will be able to see this at some point.
Should be especially interesting since Bret's girlfriend made it, considering the access she has to their everyday lives.
Want to see it NOW.

This is exciting, but I'm surprised they made it considering how private they've been about their personal lives.
That said, I really really hope we in the US can get access to it somehow!

i'm happy that people in NZ have this bonus to look forward to... hopefully it will, in part, make up for the fact that the new season is airing there after the US release...

I can't wait for this! I hope someone manages to capture it for us all.
Loved the lazy person quote. Fruit bowls...
I must admit fruit bowls wouldn't be my first choice for pampering.

I'm expecting it to be more of a behind-the-scenes documentary of the making of the show. At least I hope it is. I would think less of them if it got too personal. It's not that I'm not interested in their personal lives (I am, just like most fans who hang out on message boards), but they've said in so many different interviews how they were uncomfortable with fame and intrusions into their lives. They've even gone so far as to not answer direct questions about marriage, babies, etc. To make a documentary about yourselves for TVNZ is, I think, courting fame somewhat. I'm just afraid that it might be a little hypocritical.
Of course, I'm waiting to actually see the docu before I make that judgement, it might be totally fine. I don't want to make anyone on the board mad at me, and I hope no one takes this the wrong way.
