Columbia Pictures is officially having conversations regarding their third entry in the Men in Black franchise as we're being told by industry insiders that in addition to Jonah Hex cowboy Josh Brolin likely (still unconfirmed) to star, they've shown strong interest in both Sacha Baron Cohen (Sweeney Todd, Bruno) and Jemaine Clement ("
The Flight of the Conchords"
) for a character named "
Yaz"
(a new agent?). Neither are locked, this should be taken strictly as rumor for now. Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder, Igor, Idiocracy) wrote the screenplay. Shooting was originally rumored to begin this spring. The 1997 Men in Black grossed nearly $600m worldwide, while its 2002 sequel took in $440m. Why so long for another sequel? Who knows!

I'm not feeling this either. Why did they take so long for a ~~sequel~~ Threequel? Because Hollywood loves the moneys and they are coming short on original ideas.

Just the concept alone seems like a hunk of fail. :-/ (But will probably do well...)

we'll just have to see what comes of this rumo(u)r. in hollywood, they're about as common as silicone implants + botox injections, so i'm not holding my breath.

i would also go see anything that jemaine became involved in because i know, no matter how crappy the script (and he's unlikely to involve himself in a project unless there's SOME kind of worthwhile writing involved) he'll still wow the audience. i have confidence in his performances, just not the typically vapid hollywood industry.

i'm totally excited to share jemaine randomness in this thread, by the way...

I'd go see that movie. Or at least rent it on DVD. I think both the Men in Black movies (particularly the first, but the second was decent) are good fun.

I'm a total nerd, I guess. I've seen all the X-Men movies (I only actually liked a couple, I swear!), I saw the X-Files movie, and I'm literally SALIVATING over the Iron Man 2 trailers. So sue me.

That's exactly how I felt too when I heard this.
Jemaine, just roll this part up into a teeny tiny ball, bury it in Brand's hair and skip away to work on a project that's more... awesomely awesome.

Having just said that though xD, I have enough faith in his talent to feel that he's not going to commit to a role that isn't worthwhile, and he's not going to work on a performance for it to not result in something fantastic. He's kinda great like that. <img src=

Exactly! I mean, it's not often that you see a movie basically go straight to DVD, yet have one of the actors snag a nominee for best supporting actor. He's pretty epic. [image]

Seriously, why are they trying to revive the long-dead MIB franchise? Practically all I remember about the horrible MIB sequel was Patrick Warburton talking to an alien/flower. . .which was a pretty good scene, actually. Just about the best part of that movie, I think.

But again, like everyone else here I have faith that he's gonna do what's worthwile and what's fun for him. Even if the rumor turns out to be true and the movie ends up being awful, I have no doubt he'll shine in it, just like with Gentlemen Broncos. Smile

i've been thinking about this... and if jemaine does play a role in this film, i think he would play some kind of alien.

obviously, this is just speculation, but it seems like a jemaine thing to do - play the interesting, alternative life form - and basically steal every scene he's in. [image]
