March 3, 2010

[size=100:tvuthio3]The duo will hit the road in May, playing across Europe. Kristen Schaal who plays super fan Mel in the HBO series will provide support in Dublin, Birmingham and Manchester while Arj Barker who plays the band's friend Dave will open the show in London.

The dates are:

Dublin Olympia (May 5,6)
Birmingham NIA (10)
Manchester Apollo (11, 12)
Glasgow SECC (14, 15)
London HMV Hammersmith Apollo (May 16, 17)

Flight Of The Conchords have just announced a European tour, which we’re pleased to report pitches up in Dublin on May 5 and 6 for shows in the Olympia. Tickets go on sale this Friday priced €39.20.

“Flight Of The Conchords has had a great relationship with the U.K. in the past,” says Jermaine Clement, a.k.a. the Hiphopopotamus of their upcoming jaunt. “In some ways you could say we got our start there, and we were always over at the U.K.’s house. But then one night, some heated words were said and Flight Of The Conchords left in a huff. We haven't been back since. That was five years ago. Now, we're coming back to say we're sorry. We'll also be visiting our old friend Ireland, an acquaintance that we had an uneasy first date with called 'The Netherlands' and some countries we have never met called Norway and Sweden.”

They’re being supported by Kristen Schaal who plays Conchords fan-turned-stalker Mel in their TV series. Her acting and voice-over C.V. also includes Law & Order, South Park and the upcoming Toy Story 3.

[size=100:yid0g2ko]New Zealand folk comedy duo Flight of the Conchords will kick off a 15-stop European tour including 2 shows at The Olympia Theatre, Dublin 5th and 6th May 2010. The tour follows the second season and series finale of HBO/BBC’s hit show Flight of the Conchords as well as the release of the duo’s second full-length album, I Told You I Was Freaky. Comedians and fellow Flight of the Conchords actors Kristen Schall (Mel from the TV show) and Arj Barker (Dave from the TV show) are set to open each night. Complete list of tour dates below.

i saw the announcement in my email inbox this morning, and my heart nearly exploded from happiness for our euro flighties.

even though i won't be able to go, i am totally psyched for those of you who can!!!!!!

also, i am so moved that jemaine and bret love their fans so much - planning this couldn't have been easy, and the tour itself will be a challenge too, but they love their european flighties and fans so much that they're willing to do it!

would he be more amenable to letting her off for a couple of days if she met some kind of academic goal? perhaps you could set up a plan ahead of time with her teacher(s)? or, if they're studying european history (or something) she could incorporate a brief research project (and by research, i mean taking pictures and talking to cool people in europe Smile

) into her vacation/tour ?

if i were her teacher, i would TOTALLY encourage her to visit other countries - that's probably one of the best ways to get educated that there is in our world - and too few people take advantage of that when they have the chance Sad
