Kristen, Eugene and My 15 Minutes of Fame!
Sun Jun 28, 2009 8:16 pm
I started writing about this in another thread, but I sorta re-worded it all for Live Journal purposes and thought I should post it here too...who doesn't love a little extra internet attention, eh?
So, last night, in Boston was a Eugene Mirman/Kristen Schaal show and I was front and center for all the action!
Overall, the show was hysterical. Kristen and Eugene came out together and read a couple of "
Lost Scenes"
from FOTC between Eugene and Mel and bantered back and forth.
Kristen's act was a lot of the same material from her Comedy Central special and her stuff from the FOTC tour, but had a few new bits worked in. She tipped a Pepsi to Michael Jackson, a Slim Fast to Farrah Fawcett and some mayonnaise to Ed McMahon! She's adorable and I laughed by butt off.
Eugene's act was like, a multi-media experience. He played some videos he made on his computer, did a power point presentation, talked about an experience he had getting a traffic ticket in Montreal [and then writing an angry letter back in response] and then handed out hand made Father's Day cards.
Then Kristen came out and said that there was some drama back stage because the sound feed from the wireless microphones somehow was getting sent over to the theater next door...which just so happened to be the touring production of A Color Purple.
Then, they made everyone in the audience stand up. They read a bunch of statements and if they were true for anyone in the audience, they had to sit down. The last one standing got to go up on stage with them and um, that person was me!
They asked me what I did for work and I started to say "
I'm from Massachusetts, and therefore I'm out of a job..."
but I was nervous and they cut me off the minute i said "
I'm from Massachusetts"
and were like "
that's not what we asked you!!"
but then I got to clarify, they asked me what my old job was, and I told them I was a concierge, but did it virtually [my job had a weird premise anyway so it's kinda weird to explain to someone casually, let alone on stage with a mic in your hand, a spotlight in your face, and having a famous person ask you about it], and Kristen goes, "
Well, Anna, I think you're better than that and maybe someday you'll get a job as a concierge at a real hotel!"
She also asked my name a few times and said she liked it! [aww!]
Then they had me read in a skit with them! The story was Eugene, Kristen and I (and a butler) were a family and sitting at a table eating dinner and they were asking me what I learned at school that day. I said something about how school was boring, and that I hooked up with a teacher, and that since school was so boring, I had decided that I was going to run away to Las Vegas.
[i'm sorry if this seems like a choppy recollection, I was super nervous the entire time so I don't remember it all]
Then there was something in the script about how Kristen used to dance but hurt herself (which is why our kookie little family now had a butler) and I had to say that I wouldn't run away to Las Vegas if she got up and danced for us with said butler. They danced to Britney Spears' "
Toxic"
and wore HAZMAT suits. Get it? It was a toxic performance.
When the skit was over, they stood up and were getting ready to end the show. So I just sorta sat there awkwardly and shrugged my shoulders. They were like "
Anna, I dunno how you're gonna go off stage..."
and then I heard someone snapping their fingers at me, so I waved goodbye and went off the stage.
If I had been less of a tool, I would have tried to get them to autograph the script from the skit or something, but I was standing by a side exit waiting for my friend to meet me at the door and we both kinda got lead out onto the street, so I didn't get to stick around. HUMPH!
So yeah, that's my story!
