Same.
I just know that I love Snake Hips Clement very very much.
Same here too.
I'm just happy to see either of them dance. Especially Bret.
[size=133:e4ebzit2]Sin would be better at contributing to this thread. She's a dancer.

I'll echo that sentiment.
That said, I'm pro-Conchords dancing in all forms even though I'm a die-hard Jemainiac. There is no room for hatin' as far as Conchordian dancing is concerned. As far as the videos and gifs go, it's purely for studying and observing, right? Strictly scientific. ;

ok, ok. i'll throw in the "
dancer"
opinion...
in situations where they have the same choreography, i don't necessarily think that one is "
better"
than the other. i assume that whoever does the choreography (it might even be bret) just shows it to them, and they each put their own personal spin on it... thereby defining that one really can't be better than the other. at that point, it's just a matter of personal preference as to whose "
personal spin"
you prefer.
in situations like "
the tough brets"
where they each have different choreo, it's also difficult to determine that one is "
better"
than the other. you can really only compare the choreography, which.. if they didn't create it, then you're no longer critiquing them anyway. my personal opinion there is that they each performed their particular pieces very well.
as for the angry dance.. bret collaborated on the choreo for that with someone else. (sorry, i forgot the name.) it was clearly "
flashdance"
inspired. and i think he does a fantastic job.. from a technical standpoint, and from a "
aww, bret-y!"
standpoint.
in regards to the technical training he had in the past.. it's very clear in my eyes that it has carried with him throughout the years. the way he walks, the way he sits in a chair/crosses his legs or feet, many of his mannerisms. it's all there.. training peeking thru at every turn. it's one of the many things i love about him! and i wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that he still jumps into a dance class every now and then.

Sin, I LOVE dancer nerdiness. Thanks so much for your post.
Also, do you think that's why Bret sometimes does weird stuff like slinging his leg over the neck of his guitar? For most people, we wouldn't do that, but maybe that's another example of his dancer self coming out in an odd way.

could be. lots of dancers have trouble sitting still, and often sit or stand in random/awkward positions. i know i often do. " title="" border="0"/> so, the leg over the guitar could be a dancer thing... but i could also see it being an "
experimental musician"
thing... or maybe it's just a "
quirky bret-y"
thing.
sooo, you love dancer nerdiness? have you had training/are you a fellow dancer? just intrigued by the dance industry?
i'm just curious, and wondering what your thot process was in creating the thread.

Nope. I'm a musician. (Bachelor's degree with performance specialties in percussion and voice, also play oboe and have been playing electric bass for 4 years.) I don't really dance in a trained way, but as I get older I'm learning to be comfortable in my own skin and just let my instincts flow. Much like people who've been afraid of making music all their lives allowing themselves to make sound.
With my music in mind, though, I can count a routine and learn simple dances that way. I love that challenge, actually. And I've always been fascinated and never gotten a satisfactory answer on if dance can be (for lack of a better term) "
notated"
.

Agreed I'm a HUGE fan of Jemaine's snakehips but I also love watching Bret dance- Angry dance, Stay Cool, Boom etc. They both definitely have rhythm and possess different dance styles and it's a pleasure watching them dance

well, yes.. in a way. but there isn't really a guideline for it, if that's what you mean. some choreographers keep journals and notebooks of their work.. which could include a variety of things from step-by-step (yeah, that one's for you guys, jess and ames " title="" border="0"/>) movements to generalized ideas/concepts/pictures. as far as historical purposes goes.. well, we kinda got screwed on that one as there is no real way to capture a particular piece of dance work for all of time.

You know, I honestly thought the best dancing done in the entire series was by Rhys! I was totally stunned by his turn in "
Stay Cool, Bret"
-- he seemed to be both light and solid at the same time, if that makes any sense. There wasn't a hair on his person that wasn't committed to the move.
As far as Bret and Jemaine are concerned, Bret seems more comfortable being choreographed and as someone upthread mentioned, his general movement seems "
dancerly"
. I think Jemaine is a bit more natural and confident in the way he moves, though. He's less a dancer and more like a big happy dog off his leash.

It shows a real looseness in his hips, I think. I think that's a good thing, shows he's not like some of us who have tightness in our joints and can't move as freely.
When my best friend started watching Conchords, everything she said about Jemaine was along the lines of, "
Wow, I love the way he moves! It's so fluid! How does he do that?"
, etc. (Yet, for some reason, she's Bretero. )
