FOTC: The Movie? Empty FOTC: The Movie?

Already posted this in the Random thread but, as Nikki pointed out, this really deserves it's own thread.

[size=100:m58iejjq]Flight Of The Conchords: The movie?

Rhys Darby has revealed he and the co-creator of The Flight Of The Conchords have considered making it into a film.

The co-star of the hit TV comedy plays Murray Hewitt, manager of New Zealand's fourth most popular digi-folk paradists, Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement, and revealed they were already in talks.

Rhys said: "
James Bobin likes the idea of doing a film, James Bobin he's the co-creator."

"
But... when you make a film it's got to be, you've got to have a really great story. Whether you go and do a back story, or whether you take it off on a different tangent you have to put a lot of thought into it. So I would definitely love to do it, but we will have to wait and see."

Rhys said of the show: "
The best moments are when we are doing band meetings and those are the treasured moments. We improvised a lot of those and we have the most fun. Sometimes those band meetings go on for eight minutes you know and they have to shout 'Stop you realise the show's only 24 minutes' you know but we have so much fun doing them.

"
I think one day if it's not in the second DVD they'll be a lot of extras and deleted scenes because there is so much that we haven't seen yet."

Not that FOTC and Sex and the City are ANYTHING alike (and not that I needed to say that <img src=" title="Razz" border="0"/>), but I was nervous about the SATC movie.....and I LOVED it.

Just saying...and both are HBO shows set in NYC. [image] [image]

*imagining movie-sized Bret and Jemaine* [image] [image]

That said, if they do this, I hope that it stays true to the ideals of the show. I'm sure it would, though. Smile

I thought a Dead Like Me movie sounded like a great idea, and it turned out to be utter shii. I'm still feeling burned from that, so I can't say I'm too excited about the idea of a movie.

On the plus side, if there was a movie they'd have plenty of time to make a nice long video for Bus Driver's Song...

I just saw this a few weeks ago. I was a HUGE fan of the series, but I HATED the movie in the beginning. Towards the middle to end I thought it got better, but overall I was kinda meh about it. Maybe I'm just jealous of the excess lifestyle they all lead. [image] No, I think that was the thing that bothered me this time around. I think I needed to see the movie before we were in a recession. [image]

There are still so many people that don't know who FOTC are...So do you make a movie for core fans, w/inside jokes (ie hair helmet, camara phone) or make it for the masses ("
Bret made this hair helmet"
"
Bret made me a camera phone"
)? Bore the core fans doing jokes they already know, or just do brand new bits? Whatever, I'm there.

I quite liked the Dead Like Me Movie, myself. It started off slow, and the initial filming made Ellen Muth look like crap, but it grew on us, and was a nice wrap up. Not as good as the show, but good enough.

I don't see any reason why they couldn't have plenty of inside jokes and new jokes. But I assume they would want to explain who the characters are for a new, larger audience.

OMGOMGOMG MOVIE! [image] [image] [image] [image]

I think they should do a prequel to series one. Which of course would be a spoof on other prequels, which is an annoying concept. They could film it in New Zealand and not have to use the NZ location finder company that the US film makers use cause they'd already be there.

They're also making an Arrested Development movie, and even though it was on broadcast tv on Fox, it still had a small audience. It had tons of inside jokes and such, but that was part of what made the show so freaking awesome. The people who are huge fans of the show will still see the movie I think--my friends and I are already plotting to take the day off from work when the movie comes out in 2010 to go see it. ;<br />D

I am pro-Conchords movie Smile Haha I love that Rhys and James have been talking about it but no mention of what Bret and Jemaine think about it.

Yeah, and look at some of the bits they pulled at the end of this week's ep. Some of those were references to things that happened in season 1 that I don't think my roommates latched onto. They were still funny, but they were funny to me in a different way because I've watched season 1 maybe...possibly...I haven't counted but...150 times.

Bring on the inside jokes! Let's DO THIS THING!

I was comparing this to the Arrested Development movie too. I think Flight of the Conchords can get away with using their inside jokes, cause I don't think they have nearly as many as Arrested Development. [image]

I'm always weird about these kind of adaptations... or, more aptly, "
expansions"
. I'm always wrong, though- I was one of the people who was iffy about a Conchords TV show (I was significantly younger and more naive back then <img src=" title="Razz" border="0"/>). Of course, there's always a huge part of selfishly wanting to keep my Conchords to myself and not let a big ol' movie ruin them. But when it comes to film versions of culty shows, I don't think anyone would be able to do it better than F of the C.

I don't know. . it could either be really awesome or really awful. . . I'm always hesitent about such things: a really great art form being reproduced into a different medium. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. [image]
