[size=100:4k56lx9w]Two teenage girls caught in a cliff inlet on Auckland's North Shore have been rescued.

The teens, aged about 13 or 14, were trapped by the incoming tide at Little Shoal Bay, at Birkenhead on the north coast of Waitemata Harbour about 10km north of downtown Auckland, just before 3pm.

Police coastal master of Graham Jex says the girls were exploring the western area of the bay when they became stuck on a ledge beneath a cliff face with the tide coming in.

"
We just ran up to the shore and picked them up,"
he says.

Mr Jex says the girl sustained no injuries.

The mini-drama played out this afternoon in the bay as Flight of the Conchords Rhys Darby was near, filing a romantic-comedy called Love Birds. Co starring with British actress Sally Hawkins it is billed as a "
charming, bitter-sweet romantic comedy"

Rhys is... Hang on a minute. Are you serious? You don't know who Rhys is?
Rhys and Rosie met in Christchurch back in the mid 90's when Rhys fashioned an undercut and Rosie wore nothing but black.

Rosie co-owned a beatnik performance cafe called 'The Green Room'. It was 'the' place to be.
Rhys was down and out with no direction working part time as 'Gorp the village idiot', a character waiter at a theatre restaurant.

He auditioned to perform at The Green Room with his fellow cohort Grant 'Lightening' Lobban (a chef from the same theatre restaurant).

Rosie thought the act had a bit of potential but that Rhys was 'a bit of an idiot'. Rosie taught Rhys how to tap dance. Rhys taught Rosie how to fall in love with him...

They moved to Auckland and then abroad both carrying the same dream:
Make and support comedy for the whole world to laugh at!

I actually went last night. A few years ago, he did a show in Hollywood and he was the only one performing that night. Because of that, I was stressing out a bit because my sister and I were late (I had to wait for her to get off of work). I was afraid we were going to miss a good chunk of his stand-up but when we got there it was fine. They had a few openers and our usher told us we only missed "
the first guy."
Rhys was sitting with some people at a table in the very back. I passed by him on my way in.

He was totally rockin' that electric copper hair (that big ginger head of his...looking great). :#lol#: He didn't do any characters this time. He told hilarious stories about his experiences with Dre and his posse during the HP commercials. He also did his trademark sound effects, including: the robot, dinosaurs, guns, helicopters, etc. My mind is blurry and that's all I remember at the moment. But it was a great show! I tried to catch him before he left but failed. I could have if I really wanted to but he slipped out the back with a friend and I wasn't about to chase after him. Instead, I left him an early birthday card with a guy who looked like he was in charge at the venue. I hope Rhys gets it.

He's heading back to NZ next week. It's too bad the shows are all the way in Irvine (much longer public transit commute than L.A.). If it was in Los Angeles, I would go again.

I'm so happy you were able to see Rhys, Vanessa. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to make it out to Irvine, given a huge pile of grading and some packing I had to get through today, but I managed to make it out there tonight and Rhys was hilarious and adorable, as usual.

Like Vanessa, I'm notoriously bad at remembering much at such things, but I do remember:

1) a bit about the perils of ordering fish and chips as a famous person (he tries, and fails, to make up a last name that is not Darby)
2) reminiscing about real transformers (that never transform the way you want them to)
3) the future: elderly people who must rely upon robots to care for them (at this point Rhys pwnd his arm on the microphone - poor bebeh)
4) his experiences in NYC (getting through customs and dealing with people and automated bank phone systems with a NZ accent)
5) getting pissed off at his Tom Tom GPS

(i'm having trouble remembering the rest).

He said he would be back in L.A. in April (?) to start work on the new CBS pilot he's signed on for. I hope that he'll have time to do stand-up between his work for the show (I have no idea if he'll have enough time to do so, but a gal can hope, right?).
