I don't even know. Not like it would help since I don't have an AMEX. I'm just hoping they have enough still on reserve for tomorrow's general sale. :#nervous#:

Side note: looks like Cleveland didn't have a presale, so there might be some more hope there.

Aside from the poster mess, I hope you're having/you had a great time tonight, Coco! :#cheer#: I didn't realize your second show of the tour was so soon after the first.

Alright I have a feeling this recap is going to be even more jumbled and probably shorter than the Cleveland show because it's my second show so I won't give as much opinion on the new songs or the broad strokes of the show AND it's been a couple days and I can already feel the details starting to rust.

To get the two big bummers out of the way:

No gig poster again. Sad We were really disappointed. At least the first time I interrupted it as a fluke but now it's seeming more deliberate. I'm not really understanding the pattern though as to why some shows are getting gig posters and others aren't. I thought maybe venue size was the reason but I talked with Ami and I think we nipped that really quick. (I can't remember how/why though.) Still disappointing since their gig posters (ok, and shot glasses) is the only thing I collect. (Just in general, not just in relation to FOTC.) I'm still holding out a slight glimmer of hope something screwed up and it will be available later.

It was tough to hear some of the banter, especially through the first half of the show. We were sitting in the lower balcony, and first it didn't help that even when the theater was quiet I had to lean in a bit to help hear them. Even the friend I went with right at the beginning said to me she was having trouble hearing them. And then it was a horrible snowball effect when they cracked a joke (which they NEVER do :#rasp#: ) and all we could hear was the roar of laughter from the floor as they were building upon the joke, which led to more laughing, which led to us being even less likely to hear what they were saying. We feel like it got better as the show progressed, whether that was them tweaking the audio or maybe the audience calming down a bit or both. Also we could hear almost 100% of the time they were singing, it was really more the banter. We both said later that we would have payed a hocked ticket price if it meant we got in the orchestra. But obviously we didn't know.

Ok, happy stuffs now. Smile

Setlist:

Spoiler:

Unsurprisingly Eugene was absolutely delightful. :#love3#: :#blowkiss#: I had heard some bits from his set already, I think some from late night and maybe some from his stand up I've seen, while Arj's material was completely new to me in Cleveland. But I love Eugene's almost "
What the fuck?!"
style of stand up that I really didn't mind if some of it was repeated. He got a lot of Bob's Burgers love. (Speaking of, they had a Bob's Burgers AND Eugene poster at the merch stand, but nothing for the headliner! :#rofl#: and ><br /><img src=" title="Angry" />) He plays a video at the end of his set that is weird as it is brilliant. Don't look at the spoiler unless you won't be seeing Eugene at your show(s)...
Spoiler:

Then the guys came out. I am adoring Jemaine's pink suit. :#ded#: Ami sent me a pic a couple hours before the show and it looks way more white in the photos. So when he came out I was like, "
Wait, that is PINK! :#loveeyes#: "
And Bret had navy blue button up and jacket combo and Nigel had on a lighter blue shirt/jacket combo. (He was also wearing shades and I thought for a moment: I'll never be as fabulous as Nigel. :'( ) They were definitely looking dapper and sharp. I'm wondering if this is something they will be permanently working into the show as the tour goes on, and if that's the case how it will further develop... :#excited2#:

I REALLY hope I'm wrong about this, it happened kinda fast so I really hope there will be video to prove me wrong but I think Bret got the name of the city wrong during the first song. :#rofl#: :#fingerwave#: What I'm remembering is Jemaine saying "
Columbus"
and Bret starting to say something different than "
Columbus"
and then stopping mid-lyric. I am ONLY ok with this if he was about to say "
Baltimore"
. :;
):

At one point in the beginning when Bret is going over to the piano he says that he has to finish his beer. My friend caught that it was a Hofbrauhaus beer stein he was drinking from. There are only a handful of Hofbrauhauses in the world and Columbus and Cincinnati are so freaking German that we were the first to get them in the USA I believe. So makes A LOT of sense that they might ask where to go to eat and people would suggest Hofbrauhaus. (And I will say that Bret and Jemaine seemed a bit more... giggly in the beginning of the show? I wanna say I thought this even before Bret mentioned the beer. Either way it was a nice sight to see. :#heart#: :#beer#: )

They then briefly explained the new instruments. Jem noticed that the angle of the chimes was covering his face for part of the audience on the floor. He said something along the line of them having bad seats and the audience in the section cheered. Jem then started asking for Matt to come out and fix the height of the chimes, but Bret went ahead and did it for them. ( :#love3#: ) Jem then gave Matt a hard time for not getting it done in time.

On the topic, but I really don't think they talked about this until later, but they mentioned the vibraslap and Bret gave the impression that either Jemaine uses it too much during the show and/or Bret hasn't been entirely won over by the instrument itself yet. I honestly forget Jem's retort (or I didn't hear it) but there was definitely some vibraslapping going on. :#lol#:

The guys did have a brief band meeting on stage, and before the audience even had time to react Jemaine went back to the mic and went "
Yeah, yeah, present, present"
beating us to the punch. :#haha#:

Then they got into Stana. I know for one of the songs in the beginning, can't remember which song it very well could have been Stana, Jemaine let out a [size=85:2xm4nj93]"
FUCK!"
in the beginning. Not sure exactly what he screwed up but it was "
Fuck!"
but like a quiet "
Fuck!"
he really didn't mean to let out. XD So for Stana, Jemaine did something different from what he did in Cleveland;
he brought out what kind of looked like a whisk and started hitting the box he was sitting on with it in time with the song. It did give more of a western vibe, but poor Jemaine couldn't quite get the beat right because the instrument was kind of awkward. :#jem#: "
This guy in the front is nodding to me encouragingly."
:#haha#: He ended up literally tossing it aside and starting the song just using his hands. I really wish I knew what this thing was but google is failing me at the moment.

Also in the beginning of Stana when Jemaine went "
This will be the strangest tale you ever heard... or lip read, or signed...."
then I looked in the corner of the theater and there was a woman signing for fans in the top corner of the orchestra. They all got excited once the woman had signed what Jemaine said and they all started waving. :#love3#: :#love3#: :#love3#:

Another part of Stana which I don't think they say at shows typically is that after saying how Stana is nothing like Santa...

:#jem#: Stana will come down your chimney...
:#bret#: Oh no, don't say it! ( :#love3#: )
:#jem#: ..... and molest your pants!
:#bret#: Noooo!
:#jem#: This was nothing like Christmas, it was Molest-mas!
:#bret#: It was the worst day of the year!
:#jem#: You weren't excited for Molest-mas Eve.

:#rofl#:

Jemaine then goes "
This is an old one..."
and brings out the omnichord... internally I was like "
No...."
but then when I heard the beginning of Carol Brown I grabbed my friend's arm out of excitement and I'm sure she thought I was crazy. :#haha#: That's one song I was JUST talking about wanting to hear because they rarely play it and I love it a lot. That was beautiful to hear. :#cloud9#:

New song talk behind the spoiler:
Spoiler:

Jemaine then goes "
Should we do the one we practiced?"
and gives a rather bashful smile to Bret. :#love3#: :#love3#: :#love3#: Bret says something how this is the first time they've practiced this so I got REALLY excited thinking it was a BRAND new song but NO almost BETTER it was You Don't Have To Be a Prostitute!!! :#ded#: :#ded#: :#ded#: Again, I love when they get to play the more underrated songs. I should say first that before they played it Bret goes :#bret#: "
There was a time Jemaine was a prostitute."
*crowd cheers/women woo* "
Oh, so you KNOW? Jemaine, I didn't know you were in Columbus then."
:#haha#: (I'm glad Bret got the city right that time. :;
): On topic, earlier in the show Jemaine goes "
So you guys were named after the guy you discovered America thousands of years after it was already discovered? :#lol#: :#lol#: :#lol#: ) So then they actually start playing and it was goddamn lovely. :#cry#: I thought it couldn't get any better until they started transition the song into a rendition of Roxanne but instead of "
ROX-ANNE"
Bret was singing "
JAH-MAAAIINNNEE"
It took a verse or two for everyone realize the jump they did but everyone started applauding and LOSING IT especially when Jemaine started adding "
I don't have to put on the red light!... Put on the red light!"
All during the time there is an array of red lights flashing from the stage onto the crowd. IT WAS FUCKING AMAZING. Everyone started applauding it was so great. This went on for a bit, Jemaine and Bret kinda gave each other a look and Jemaine started singing "
Please TURN DOWN THE RED LIGHTS? Why won't you TURN OFF THE RED LIGHTS?"
because they wanted to lights to die down with the song or they just would have kept going forever. (Which I would have been totally ok with.)

And then later it came out Sting and Peter Gabriel were there which makes more sense, but I god I hope they do that for more shows and someone gets video. :#pray#:

One weird part in show, a guy in front yelled or Jemaine noticed him and he asked what was on his shirt and the guy yelled "
GENTLEMAN BRONCOS AND MUPPET MAN"
. There was a second or two of awkward silence and Jemaine goes "
Usually fans of our band where band tshirts, just so you know."
But I'm sure he wouldn't have complained if it was referencing What We Do In The Shadows. :;
): (As it probably should over GB. :O_o: )

Bret and Jem started introducing 1353, saying how medieval it was, and someone must have yelled "
Play your old stuff!"
cause Bret said "
I don't care if you want to hear our old stuff."
with a smile on his face. :#lol#: (You tell 'em! :#buttrock#: ) then Jemaine goes "
This song is old."
:#rofl#: :#notworthy#:

Ok this was another highlight of the night: during 1353 all three start playing together on their recorders when Jemaine gets up and starts doing a little dance with his feet and legs (it was honestly a little awkward :#haha#: :#love3#: ) which invited Bret to get up and they started playing closer together with the tips of their recorders almost touching while doing this weird sort of dance that Jemaine started, which goes into Jemaine taking a hand away from the lower part of his recorder and Bret "
helping"
him play the lower half with HIS hand! Although Bret really wasn't doing shit, just waving his fingers. :#haha#: Then Bret turned his back to the stage but crooked his arms so the recorder was over his shoulder and still in the "
front"
and was playing that way - not exactly sure why! I think I was too busy trying to figure out what Bret was doing to see what Jemaine was doing next, he may have started to settle down at that point. I really wish Nigel got into the mix too but he stayed seated and left the shenanigans to the professionals. (By the way, you should all be proud I didn't make any homoerotic jokes because there was plenty of opportunity.)

There was a bit of a lull and they talked about their "
rock and roll"
anecdotes and then this happened:
:#bret#: Do you guys want to hear more songs or anecdotes?"

Fans: Anecdotes!
:#bret#: Ok, have you guys heard the one about the muffin? (I got EXTREMELY EXCITED)
:#bret#: Or maybe the one about the bank?
:#jem#: That one's a great one, even though we online bank now.
Fan: WENT TO THE BANK!!!
:#jem#: You can't request it, Bret just said it.

:#haha#: :#haha#: :#haha#: :#haha#:

Not a WHOLE lot to explain regarding below:
Amily wrote:I'm pretty sure Coco will agree that this needs to be in here and I'm also pretty sure that she'll end up elaborating for us. :#lol#:

I guess Jemaine saw her about to take a picture and asked her to wait as he posed. I'd like to thank not only god but jesus that she put it online, I was willing to bet we'd never see it.

They ended with Business Time which as we have discussed isn't really our top choice considering we've all heard it pretty many times and they typically don't switch it up. BUT I will say at this show as Jemaine was moaning and hitting the chimes he was getting VERY into it, I think we experienced an extensive moaning addition of the song because we all kept laughing which only made him go harder. (*cough*) So that was a nice mix up and of course I'm not going to complain about something like that.

Ok, that's it. :#haha#: I say it won't be as detailed but look where we are now. :8-): :#thud#:
