Went to my first Conchords show in Dallas. Yay! I've been lurking here a while so thought I'd jump in. No pictures because they wouldn't let cameras in. At the show, my husband went to get snacks and he came back and asked me how tall is Bret? I said he's about 6 feet tall (I think). Hubby said a guy with a microphone and a cameraman (like a news type camera) stopped him and asked him if he was German (which he is). Hubby said he was and the guy asked him if he'd ever been in a movie (which he hasn't), so hubby said no. The guy told hubby he looked like a guy in the movie "
Taken"
, then walked away. The guy had on a blue button up shirt, dark jeans, had a full beard and mustache (beard was not shaved on the neck), was about 6 feet tall, had curly dark hair and had big sunglasses on with a ball cap pulled way down low over his face. Hubby is hard of hearing, so he couldn't tell if the guy had an accent, but the microphone had a yellow band around it. Hubby noticed the yellow bands on the mics being used by the performers and when Conchords came on, Bret was wearing a blue button up shirt and dark jeans with red shoes. Hubby didn't see the shoes on the guy who asked him the questions because he was holding a tray with drinks and snacks. Hubby is convinced it was Bret. Don't know why Bret would do something like that, but then again, why wouldn't he, just to have some fun? Wish I'd been there. I would've known if it was Bret!
Anyway, during the show, Bret - accident prone Bret - got down on the ramp leading into the audience and leaned a little too far forward. He slipped and did a face plant right into the chest of a woman sitting in the first row! He apologized for spitting on her (really?) and got up quickly and got back up to the stage. The big monitors lost him during all this, so only caught a glimpse. He told the audience they like getting intimate with the crowd, but that was a little TOO intimate. Pretty sure he was embarrassed, but I don't think that woman minded too much. I wouldn't have minded!
I really enjoyed the show, but since it was only an hour set, I wish it had been longer. Hubby and I left before Chapelle came on. We were only there for the Conchords. Had the nice result of missing all the horrible traffic getting out of the fair park. I was really disappointed in the venue. It was HOT (like over 100 in the shade hot) and the front seating were stupid fold-out chairs. These guys have played Radio City Music Hall for crying out loud! Still really loved the show. Hope someone got pics or videos and will post them. I'd like to know if anyone else got "
interviewed"
by the aforementioned "
mystery guy with the cameraman"

Hi merrycat! :#wave#:
Thanks for delurking to tell us about the show! :#thumbsup#: :#glomp#: Awesome stuff!
The thing about the mysterious men with a mic and camera. Hmmm..., if it was Bret, I wish they were filming something like Texan Odyssey mocumentary. However, I could be wrong, I don't remember when was the last time I've seen Bret wearing a baseball cap (in photos, of course), so there's an element of doubt that it was Bret. Yeah, that's a shame you weren't with your husband then. But since he's convinced it was Bret, then maybe it was! :#excited2#:
I read on about Bret's falling into audience member's arms. Lucky girl! And lucky Bret that he had a soft landing :#haha#: He could hurt himself.
That's the problem with FOTC show - we always want more and even 2.5 hr set is not enough. I wish they had their own solo tour in America and came back to Europe as well. I'm guessing they hadn't have any specific plans for touring the US until they got an offer to be a part of this Oddball Festival a few months ago. I wish they released a new album and did some proper shows. :#pray#:
There are some photos and videos I found on twitter, instagram and YouTube and I'm going to post them now.
Thanks again for joining the Board!

I don't know if there is any sense now in posting photos of Kristen and Jemaine flashdancing in 'spoiler' brackets, since it's all around the Internet. If you don't agree, you can hate me now :#shy#: and Oddball Festival for posting this photo on their facebook
What an epic weekend for Oddball! Thanks so much to everyone who came out and witnessed history! There are still few tickets available for the remaining shows (minus Irvine) so DON'T SLEEP ON BUYING TICKETS otherwise, you might miss moments like this

Too Many Dicks
The Summer of 1353
Finally we got to the meat of the show: Flight of the Conchords and Chappelle. The Kiwi music duo delighted the crowd with stories of being on the road and all the mischief that a rock band will get up to in between gigs, whether it's enjoying one too many complimentary muffins or being momentarily trapped in an elevator.
They performed most of their classics, including "
The Most Beautiful Girl in the Room"
and "
Inner City Pressure."
My personal new favorite is a medieval-style retelling of ways men of yore would pitch woo called "
Summer of 1353,"
which you can hear above.

I've found a photo of this crew (taken by ) and wondered if they're the same guys your husband, merrycat, met. The guy with a bread doesn't look like he's Bret. But, we don't know if it's the same team.

Hubby looked at the picture of the camera crew and said they didn't have three guys, there was no boom mike, those were not the guys he talked to. The guy with the ball cap who talked to hubby had a light blue button up shirt, not a dark blue pull-over, and now hubby thinks the guy (in the picture you posted) with the black shirt with what appears to be yellow sleeves was the guy who had the camera. I believe he looks like one of the comedians, Al Madrigal. Hubby really thinks it was Bret pretending to be an interviewer with Al Madrigal pretending to be a cameraman, out screwing around incognito before the show. The questions they asked were so random (are you German? have you ever been in the movie Taken?) and then they just walked away;
didn't identify themselves with any media outlet or anything. Hubby is certain it was Bret putting on an "
American"
accent, but it was so loud my husband had his hearing aids turned down, so he "
heard"
the words more by looking at the man's mouth, so he wouldn't have been able to tell if there was an accent anyway. I just think it would be hilarious if it was Bret and Al out being dorks! I wish, wish, wish I'd been there! If only there was a way to ask Bret. If I'd been there probably wouldn't have gotten an autograph or anything because he was in the middle of the festival with 20,000 people milling around and he would've been SWARMED if he started autographing or taking pictures!

Not much to say about this show either. :#shrug#:
Our seats were shitty, couldn't see not to mention super uncomfortable (on the lawn). Plus, I had a distraction.
I can say though that I love it so much when the guys mess up! :#lol#: :#love3#:
Also, watch this space for goodie #2 in the days to come. :#excited2#:

Hi Merry! :#wave#: Thanks for posting about the show. Ami and I were sitting on the lawn and could only see what was on the monitors, so we definitely missed this. We did see what he did in Houston, which was kind of hard to tell...he had a girl's face in his hands while singing and he was making it look like he was being somewhat inappropriate, but I can't imagine. So I guess I assumed something like that had happened again. Glad he didn't hurt himself!merrycat wrote:Anyway, during the show, Bret - accident prone Bret - got down on the ramp leading into the audience and leaned a little too far forward. Curious to know if we ever find out about your husband's experience. I hope it was Bret!

All I can say is hubby wants vindication. He just wants someone to believe him but there's just no proof. Poor hubby.gezyka wrote:Hi Merry! :#wave#: Thanks for posting about the show. Hey guys!
I wanted to post these for those I may not be friends with on FB. Plus it cracks me up.
I happened to be in Dallas for a work thing when the guys were in town as well. I got in Sunday morning and was bitching because I had to wait in the baggage terminal for 4 hours (long story).
Anyways, there I was reading my tablet and I just happened to look up. Right in front of me is Bret. And I'm like. This isn't real. Then I look to my right and there's Jemaine. I wanted to go up to them SO BAD but I felt like a crazy stalker! Like seriously what are the chances that we both happen to be in that terminal, hahahaha. Anyways, I didn't go up to them (I mean really, who wants to be bothered after getting off the plane...) but I kind of wish I did. Ah well.
Anyways, I tried to get pics while I sat there and I guess I wasn't so stealthy because Jemaine definitely caught me... hahahaha. Sorry J!

So they weren't on the tour bus, they flew from Houston to Dallas - or was this leaving Dallas after the show Sunday night? Surprised that Sub Pop flies their talent on commercial airliners - especially Oscar winners! Now I wish we HAD flown to Dallas on Sunday instead of driving from Oklahoma. Driving was cheaper but flying was FASTER and I might have gotten to see the guys at the airport. Sigh!!!

Jemaine wearing this hat and from this angle in this photo reminds me a florist standing opposite my shop where I work. He's a cool guy, but definitely isn't hot. :#haha#:
