The guys were (unsurprisingly) great last night. Kristen was phenomenal - the more I see her perform the more I adore her. I'm especially impressed by the fact she's survived an entire tour surrounded by male comics (more on that - including a soap box moment - under the spoiler tag). Demetri made an appearance and was witty and adorable, as always.

The guys opened with some references to Irvine as beautiful and as the safest town they'd ever visited, referencing the community planning project by the Irvine Company that [s:1x6qx7zg]rules[/s:1x6qx7zg] developed the entire city. (I actually find the whole town to be really creepy - like Stepford Wives creepy). Jemaine also made a comment about our dysfunctional government and then, when the audience responded with mixes of laughter and "
ohhhh"
's, he said that we could go ahead and tell our politicians what he had said, he didn't care. He suggested that they'd probably do nothing anyway. Yep.

Jemaine had a stinging bug incident at this show... hasn't that happened before? It happened shortly after he missed a line from 1353 - they moved on to a couple of other songs, came back, and poor Jemaine screwed up some of the words again. It caused him to curse, however, which was delightful (I thought so, anyway). Their rendition of Father and Son, along with the obligatory visual gags, was a strange combination of sweet and hilarious, and the audience really loved Business Time, Inner City Pressure (!!!!), and rhymenoceros vs hiphopopotamus. My favorite though is definitely Fuck on the Ceiling, though during the song I think Bret was trying to stop himself from laughing.

It was a perfect night - it reminded me a bit of their Hollywood Bowl show. :#cloud9#:

Oh! and I think Flea from RHCP was in the audience - he passed right by me before the show started.

Right. The rest of this is me pissed off about the other comics that are on tour with the guys and Kristen.

You may be thinking of the Pittsburgh show where he was bitten by a mosquito and made quite a big deal about having all of his blood drained. :#haha#: They were being attacked by mosquitos and moths that entire night.

I don't know which song I enjoyed more between Father &
Son and Fuck on the Ceiling. I was super excited to hear them both going in and neither one disappointed. I think Father &
Son was slightly more surprising because there was so much more to it than there was previously. But Fuck on the Ceiling was just SO. GOOD.

Inner City Pressure does sound amazing on this tour. That was definitely the highlight of the older material for me.

:#heart#: :#heart#: :#heart#: :#heart#: :#heart#: Kristen. :#heart#: :#heart#: :#heart#: :#heart#: :#heart#:

So. Totally. Agree. With. You. Sam.

Fuck on the Ceiling might well be my new favorite song... though 1353 is fighting to keep that spot in my heart...

It sounded like something bigger than a mosquito got Jemaine this time around - he pantomimed the size of the stinger - or whatever - as being nearly as big as a finger, and kept reaching around in his shirt to get whatever it was completely out of there. Poor guy.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that security was very tight - I didn't try to take any pictures and I doubt many people attempted to do so either. When Dave Chapelle came on it felt like we were in a prison, wtih the guards pacing back and forth and walking up aisles to check on people's cell phone use. It was disturbing.

Yeah, I can't say that it's my favorite (I doubt Bus Driver's Song will ever get knocked from that spot to be honest), but it's jumped pretty high up the list in a really short period of time. I wish we had a decent recording of it from this tour because it's miles better than it was when they were playing it last year.

I agree with Chrissy on basically everything. You're totally surprised :#haha#:

Kristen's set was so great - I just love her. And I hadn't spoiled myself on the grand finale, so when I realized what was going on I was like :#squee#: :#thud#: :#six#:

And I was really psyched that Demetri made an appearance! His set was a bit shorter than most of them (both he and Hannibal Burress did short sets although they hadn't been on the official lineup), but I had never seen him live, so it made me super happy. He messed up one of his jokes, which was pretty funny. It was supposed to be "
I can move things with my mind if I use my hands,"
but instead he said, "
I can move things with my hands - wait, I fucked it up. I'll come back to that one. You'd think I could memorize it;
it's only like nine words."
:#haha#:

And the guys were, obviously, AMAZING;
as usual, I had on my Aziz face: :#aziz#: I felt really bad for Jem when he got that bug in his shirt! :#jem#: :#blowkiss#: Although the terrible part of me was hoping he'd have to take his shirt off to get the bug out :#shy#:

Loved Fuck on the Ceiling - they really have tightened it up for this tour. That song is just :#ded#: I was kinda dancing along in my chair, and I think the randos sitting next to me thought I was weird. Oh well! And Father and Son! So great! It was strange to only know the one verse going into it. I couldn't stop giggling at the visual antics for that one as well. But I think my favorite moment was the flute in Inner City Pressure - I couldn't stop laughing!!! :#rofl#: :#rofl#: :#rofl#:

I was really glad they had time to come back to 1353 after the aborted first attempt - I was a little worried they wouldn't have time. That was my one tiny qualm with their set - everything felt rushed, maybe because I knew they were doing a shorter set than normal, but even the song tempos seemed faster for the most part. But there's nothing they really could have done about that, I don't think, and I would rather have the songs be faster and get to hear more of them, and/or more banter, than the other way around. Anyway, I liked the revamp of 1353 as well, with Bret doing the other voices. I like it both ways, actually, but Bret's accents were really funny.

As for the other comedians - I thought Chris D'elia was pretty funny. He also started out with making fun of an audience member, but it quickly diverged from her and by the end I was cracking up. Some of the others had their moments, but for the most part.... :#blah#: I'm just choosing to remember the good bits and not think so much about the other bits. And yeah, as Chrissy said, Kristen rocks for putting up with that atmosphere for the whole tour. I like to imagine her and J&
B just hanging out doing their own thing, while all the other dudes hate-fucked themselves in their lonely hotel rooms :#blah#:

September 15 - Irvine, CA CONCHORDSFINAL.jpg
Upon our return, a band set-up was arranged on stage, and Ross brought out Flight of the Conchords. Deafening screams and cheers filled the air. I knew FOTC would be brilliant but the show that they put on tonight was nothing short of spectacular. This New Zealand based duo (Bret and Jemaine) played different characters in song after song, stopped to tell their very (not at all) rock and roll road stories, rapped a bit (holy shit unbelievable!!), and even put the eight security guards on blast saying that they were there so people wouldn't text or tweet. They also welcomed any groupies to come back stage and do, "
really weird stuff with aquatic life."
They then apologized to Irvine if any of the groupies woke up with some "
bass in their ass"
or a "
sole in their hole."
They got a standing ovation, because wow, they were great.

Caitlin, I'm so glad you enjoyed Chris D'Elia. He tends to make fun of audience members at every one of his shows, that I've seen (on youtube lol). Sometimes even his entire set is just back and forth with members of the audience and not at all what he planned to talk about on stage. The audience members always seem to get quite a kick out of it though. I love him and was a bit worried about how he'd be taken, so I'm relieved. Smile

So sad he wasn't at any of the shows I went to. :#sadlove#:

Hopefully, the guys don't do another tour like this again. I didn't really enjoy it as a whole either but beggars can't be choosers right? :#haha#:

I think I'm just greedy and prefer the longer sets but most of the comedians were not my cup of tea.

Also, I have a fairly decent recording of F on the Ceiling from the Houston show and possibly Dallas... I'm just a really bad procrastinator and have not edited my audio yet. I will get on it. :#thumbsup#:

Awesome!!! :#notworthy#: There was so much signage about getting kicked out for cell phones and a security guard pacing literally right next to me that I didn't even try to get a photo, let alone a recording. Can't wait to hear it!

I may send you my Houston recording if you want to help. The Dallas one, I may have to pick and choose which tracks to share because you can unfortunately hear me and my friend talking through some of it. Mostly him asking me questions about FOTC and me explaining stuff. :#shy#:

I'll get on it after work tonight. :#thumbsup#:
