Those sites should be pulled.. and tickets should be prohibited from selling on ebay (or whatever) for more than face value. It is truly disgusting.
I think it's a law in PA that you can't sell tickets for more than face value, but I don't know how strictly that's enforced... if at all.

There isn't a winner yet. If you go to hbo.com it says that Bret and Jemaine are currently picking the winner.
I actually don't think that poster above is even in the contest. I'm sure it was made for Sub Pop.

And I agree about the poster...that guy's job IS making posters and such for bands. He recently made one for Vampire Weekend, too!

The tour hasn't even started yet and I'm already sick of people whining about it.
Sorry. It just had to come out somewhere.

Source:[size=133:thbnl4pb]Conchords' popularity soaring
The Dominion Post | Wednesday, 25 February 2009
[size=100:thbnl4pb]... Meanwhile, the duo's live shows in the United States in April and May are such hot tickets that they are changing hands faster than those for Britney Spears with some selling for as much as US$1238 (NZ$2343).
American website Ticket News, which calculates the top 20 events in the US, has ranked Flight of the Conchords at No6. Fleetwood Mac is at No 5 and Spears at No 7 in sales in what is known as the "
secondary tickets market"
.
Several American companies including Ticket Network act as an intermediary for people or organisations wanting to sell tickets they have already bought.
Secondary ticket prices for the Conchords' US shows vary via Ticket Network. They can cost as much as US$1238 for front-row-centre seats for their show in Austin, Texas, on May 7. For their Chicago show, tickets go as high as US$446. At Radio City Music Hall in New York they cost between US$98 and US$434. In Tampa, Florida, in April, tickets range from US$68 to US$387.
The average price for tickets through agencies such as Ticketmaster for Flight of the Conchords' shows is US$38.
The website's top 20, which has Bruce Springsteen at No 1, is based on Ticket Network transactions.
I can't believe the most expensive seats ($1238) have been sold for the Austin show.

Source:[size=133:gqq1o0fm]How Flight of the Conchords tix for Overture sold out so fast
Jay Rath on Thursday 03/05/2009
[size=100:gqq1o0fm]How is it physically possible for an act to sell out a show at massive Overture Hall in just a few minutes? Flight of the Conchords did. They're performing Sunday, April 26.
Management for the HBO stars demanded that 70% of the 2,251 Overture Hall seats be set aside for sale to fan club members. Media partner WMMM-105.5 FM got 250 tickets. Overture set aside another 250 for its own advance purchasers.
At 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, what was left went on sale. Demand was instant and enormous, crashing Overture's phone system. Tickets were yanked on the spot for everyone standing in line, and Internet sales snapped up the last seats. It was over in moments.
Did scalpers scoop up the seats? "
There are methods that we have to curb ticket resellers,"
says Chappell. Purchasers were limited to eight tickets — except in the first 14 rows, where purchasers were limited to four tickets. The tickets will be released only at the box office to those who bought them, with valid identification.
On their HBO comedy program, the New Zealand mock-and-roll duo has a single fan and hapless management. In real life, it seems, the group has lots of fans.

I'm sure Bret & Jemaine demanded that their management demand this - very considerate of them to look out for their fans.

I am so very, VERY grateful to them and the people they have working behind the scenes on this tour for doing what they could to make ticket buying less of a nightmare this time around.
I could not possibly love them more.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...the appreciation and adoration that Bret and Jemaine continue to pour out onto their fans is unbelievable. They truly are unique in so many ways, this being one of them. They really go above and beyond.
That being said...I could never imagine paying that much money to see them. Though I would love to know that I would be up close and secure on the front row, I know now that I can never expect to sit there. I am perfectly happy with my $40 balcony seats. As much as I love the guys, I would not, could not fork over hundreds of bucks for a show. I cannot even fathom that amount of money.
Some of those people on the front row will have paid more than I owe in rent and utilities each month and need to be donating to some charities...like the "
Put Food in Casey's Tummy"
fund.

Source:[size=133:n0o93tt7]Ticket scalping poses problems for duo's fans
Priscilla Totiyapungprasert
Daily Texan Staff
Published: Friday, March 6, 2009
Updated: Friday, March 6, 2009
[size=100:n0o93tt7]UT alumnus John Worsham sat at his computer at 11:59 a.m. sharp, poised and ready to purchase tickets for the upcoming Flight of the Conchords performance at Bass Concert Hall.
As soon as the minute passed, Worsham, along with thousands of other fans of the comedy and music duo, flooded the UT Performing Arts Center Web site. Much to his dismay, Worsham said technical difficulties plagued his efforts and that he was denied access to a ticket. After calling the ticket office to explain his problem, a representative said tickets had sold out in 10 minutes and that there was nothing that could be done.
Worsham said he was “completely disgusted” when he discovered later that tickets were being re-sold online at GoTickets.com for up to $900, a significant jump from the original $38.50 selling price. As of Wednesday, tickets on the Web site ranged in price from $140 balcony seating to $595 orchestra seating.
“My business partner told me about the site, so I thought I’d check it out,” Worsham said. “Then I saw how ridiculous the prices were — a 1000-percent increase.”
Gene Bartholomew, spokesman for the Performing Arts Center, said scalping is a persistent problem that may be here to stay.
“The secondary ticket industry is much bigger than people realize,” Bartholomew said. “[Scalpers] even hold their own conference each year in Las Vegas.”
Bartholomew added that while scalping can be seen as an economic opportunity, he opooses it.
Ticket manager Karola Thurman said Bass Concert Hall has a seating capacity of 2,861 and that the enthusiastic response to Flight of the Conchords was expected. She advised students to avoid purchasing scalped tickets due to potential pitfalls, including the sale of fraudulent tickets.
“It’s better to purchase tickets from the school and get your name on account,” Thurman said. “If you lose your ticket, we can re-print another one, but if you lose a scalped ticket, it’s gone forever.”
Both Thurman and Bartholomew said no legal action can be taken, because those who purchase tickets to re-sell are still members of the general public. Once the ticket is in their possession, they can do with it what they please.
Representatives from GoTickets.com, which is also selling tickets for future Performing Arts Center events, declined to comment.
I feel really lucky 'cause I got tickets to that show without any problem...thank goodness for the pre-sale!!
