Witty intro? Quick, look! A talking oven!

Hey, peeps. Or wouldn't that be Flightys? (Flighties?)
I've been a fan since the boys' BBC show. What alerted me to it was the guest appearance of Neil Finn, and I'm definitely a Finn and associated acts fan. (I went to Australia in 2006 to see the Split Enz reunion tour. Even used to be friends with one of the band members, but that's water under the bridge.)
In fact the icon I'm using right now is of Liam Finn, who looks similar to Bret *and* Jemaine when he chooses to go bearded. There must be something charming about a fuzzy kiwi, right?
I think the guys are brilliantly funny, and it's the kind of humor that seems to enrich every time. I can laugh about something anew, and I love that. I've done my part to spread the FotC love around me such as purchasing the first season DVDs for my library's collection (Yep... I'm a librarian, and I buy stuff. Power!) Plus, I was playing the "
binary solo"
from robots for our head computer guru because it was just too funny not to share.
Also being a Finn/Kiwi music fan, I have a peeve that the only Texas city they seem to know is Austin. I live in west central Louisiana, and Houston (where I have family) is only a 3 hour drive away from me. This year when I saw that the conchords were actually going to play Houston and do it on the *day after my birthday*, I knew I simply HAD to go. As I wrote on that thread, I'm bringing my 2 sisters-in-law with me and either my neice or my sister if she can make it. (I bought a set of 4 tickets.)
I probably started as a Bret fan because I knew of the Figwit phenomenon. I guess because of that I was surprised at how many Jemainiacs (or do you have a different name for yourselves) there are out there. And now, I'm being non-committal and not wanting to pick one as favorite over the other. I was thinking, though, that if I met the guys, I'd probably have an easier time talking to Jemaine. We can bass geek together. (I play bass and have done so for over 4 years.)
Anyhow, happy to be here. Very happy to meet other fans. Really looking forward to seeing them live in less than 3 weeks. This day 3 weeks from now, I'll still be basking in the Conchords glow. Now a bad place to be, right?

Welcome to the board, aikakone!!!
Reading your intro post, I realised we have a lot in common.
I play bass guitar, I love Liam Finn and NZ music. Plus I'm just about to start studying librarianship after working in that field.
Nice to meet you. Hope you post often and soon feel like the board is home.

Another Bi-Conchordian who likes fuzzy kiwis?
Welcome, aikakone!
I'm in San Antonio, so I'm not too far from you! Well, compared to most people here. I thought about going to all the Texas shows, but will just be at the Austin one since I'm going to the shows in Denver and SLC too. Let us know how the Houston show goes!
I'm so jealous that you've been to NZ! Here's the if you'd like to add yourself. " title="" border="0"/>
Happy posting!

Well, I've only been to NZ, but that's just as far as the airport is concerned. I had a long layover in Auckland, but not long enough to get out and enjoy fresh NZ air. Sadly.
On, and on the bass stuff, I downloaded "
Hurt Feelings"
from Amazon via a free SubPop sampler about 2 weeks ago. I listened only a few times and figured out how to play it for my bass lesson, early one Saturday morning. As I started playing the song for my teache,r he turned up his nose at the "
rap"
song. So truly to the uninitiated, the Conchords are style masters.
Thanks for the welcomes, Ladies. " title="" border="0"/> Good to be here!

I can't stop playing Hurt Feelings on the bass. A simple bass line, but so good to play.

I'll convince him yet! He was impressed at my ability to learn it by ear in a short amount of time. I should learn other FotC songs, too, like "
Business Time"
, but that would take me longer to work out. I'll take suggestions on good bass songs, though.
If I met Jemaine, I'd ask him what kind of bass he plays on the series. It seems to be a mystery to us bass players. He sure sounds good doing it, and I love the red acoustic one he plays live.
Makes me think we could do a whole thread on bass and Conchords in case there are any other bass players lurking. Are there?

I think it's just the two of us. Plus possibly Meggy???
I would love a thread though. Please make one and then I can add my research about Jemaine's bass. I've been meaning to do that for ages...
Yep, Business Time is another good one for the bass.
I keep meaning to work out "
Prostitute"
when I get five minutes...

The main "
Flight of the Conchords"
section should do nicely.
Are you going to start it then when you get a free minute?

They will. I suppose it depends if it becomes a general bass thread or a Conchord specific bass thread. We can see how it develops and get it moved depending on how it goes...
I'm just geeking out by writing a post in there now.

Better late than never, right? Right???
Hi, aikakone and welcome aboard. I can already tell that your sense of humor and way with words is going to fit in quite nicely here
There must be something about bass-playing librarian folks that gives them the gift of words *Thinks of Sarah*
Anyway, see you around the board!!!
