The writer is obviously a big fan of the show (she even knows that the characters' last names are Clemaine and McClegnie for chrissakes) why does she need to insult their comedy before making her argument? Also, "
they've been shirtless too many times to count"
- I wish.

I somehow missed that! Where do you learn that those are their last names?

And I disagreed with a lot of things in that article. They are funny and talented and that was what I noticed first.

And Eddie Izzard does flippin RULE!!!

Both names are mentioned in the show. If you want specifics (episode/scenes) - let me know, or you may want to have fun discovering them yourself.

The names have since been confirmed in various interviews...

Bret says his in "What Goes on Tour" when he's signing "autographs" for the NJUWWPT at the hotel bar (whoo!  sorry felt obligated to say the cheer).  Don't know when Jemaine says his.

Er...hope I didn't ruin the surprise.

I really really REALLY do not like how the article talks about all the sexual harassment the boys have to endure on the show in a way that seems to infer that's what us female viewers find sexy, or that we like "sexual passivity" in men. In fact, I do not believe that "passive" should in any way be a part of sex at all, for either gender. "Passive" is not a word I would use to describe their exploits, even though it technically falls under the definition. . I'm not sure how I would describe it.

Jemaine and Bret are passive characters (usually, not always). They rarely steer the action in the show. Usually, other characters do the steering for them: Murray, Mel, Dave, muggers, girlfriends, etc.

But they are less passive this season than last season.

ADD: I don't think passivity is necessarily a bad thing. Everyone is passive in certain areas of their lives ... even the most aggressive people. Otherwise, they'd be dialed to 11 every moment of the day.

BUT: I do think passivity is a problem when people are passive because of fear, rather than choice.

I think it's more farcical.  It's the classic "fish out of water".  There have been passive moments, yet I consider the characters more naive and bumbling but still enthusiastic.  Which I think is charming to most women, because really, the guys you are going to encounter in real life are going to do doofy things trying to woo you -  stumble over their words, tick you off by complimenting you, or get their watch caught in your hair when they move in for a hug.   They're more like guys you know.

That sounds about right, actually. I couldn't really find the words.  Smile
I've just come to view passivity as something so negative and despicable, that even the word "passive" makes my claws start to come out.  Sad no

Actually, part of the reason I loved the show so much is because I wish I knew more guys like them. Just sweet and goofy, not exactly Prince Charming but that in itself ends up being charming.

I liked the article and I didn't like the article.  I found myself smiling to myself at times like when she called it porn.  I had not thought of it as porn but now I totally can see it that way.  I agree with murrayland in that I see them as more "fish out of water" naivety then just mere passive.  It's not that they don't care about what goes on around them they are just experiencing it for the first time.  I almost stopped reading when she started on about some secret about them not being very good at music or comedy.  I wouldn't be so head over heels for these guys if they couldn't make me laugh.  And I wouldn't have listened to there songs enough times to have the whole album memorized if they where mediocre at best.  They are talented guys that know how to make us laugh and just happened to be drop dead gorgeous.  They can't help they know what women want.
